Counter-Depth vs Standard-Depth

Counter-depth" refers to the distance between the back wall of your kitchen and the front edge of countertops, with a standard depth of 24-25 inches.

To put this into context, most standard-depth refrigerators measure around 3to 34 inches deep, meaning they extend beyond your countertops. In comparison, counter-depth refrigerators usually have a depth of 24-25 inches, aligning perfectly with the cabinetry depth.

The numbers tell the story.

Standard-depth refrigerators stick out a bit from your counters. While this reduces walking space in smaller kitchens, they offer greater storage space for your groceries, leftovers, and oversized platters.

Counter-depth refrigerators, on the other hand, sit nearly flush with cabinetry. It complements a clean, built-in look that enhances the overall flow of your kitchen space.

How to Choose a Refrigerator

The choice between standard-depth and counter-depth refrigerators comes down to aesthetics and functionality.

If you prioritize a seamless, integrated look, especially for an open-concept kitchen, a counter-depth refrigerator is an ideal solution. It aligns beautifully with modern, minimalist designs.

If functionality is your top priority, a standard-depth refrigerator may be a better choice. Whether you’re cooking for a large family, or preparing dishes for a potluck gathering, the extra interior space saves you the hassle and frustration of trying to squeeze everything in.
